Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. (Born on November 20, 1942) is also known as Joe Biden is the 46th President of the United States and former Vice President during Barack Obama’s presidential term.

Joe Biden was the Federal Senator for Delaware from 1973 to 2009, he is considered to belong to the right-wing of the Democratic Party and chaired the Judicial and Criminal Committee of the upper house of Congress from 1987 to 1995. He is also the head twice, between 2001 and 2009, of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee.

An unsuccessful candidate in the Democratic primaries for the presidential elections of 1988 and again in 2008, he was chosen by Barack Obama to be his running mate as the running mate of the United States for the 2008 election. He is elected with it, then re-elected after the 2012 election.

In 2020, he wins the Democratic presidential primaries thanks to the withdrawal of Bernie Sanders and chooses Kamala Harris as a candidate for vice-president. After the presidential election, after a few days of uncertainty, the media announced him elected.

Donald Trump then refuses to recognize his defeat and asks his supporters to march on the Capitol. But Congress certifies the results giving Joe Biden 306 out of 538 voters. At 78, he becomes the oldest president to enter the White House and the second Catholic president (sixty years after John Fitzgerald Kennedy), after having been the first Catholic vice president in American history.

Early Life Of Joe Biden

Joe Biden was born in Scranton Pennsylvania, on November 20, 1942. Son of Joseph Robinette Biden Sr. and Catherine Eugenia “Jean” Finnegan. He is the eldest son of a Catholic family, he has a sister, Valerie, and two brothers, Francis and James. He was raised in the Catholic religion, which was professed by his mother Jean who was of Irish origin.

Biden’s father was initially wealthy, but suffered many financial setbacks at the time of Biden’s birth; for many years the family lived with the maternal grandparents. 12 Scranton fell into economic decline during the 1950s, and Biden’s father was unable to find a steady job.

In early 1953, when he was ten years old, he and his family moved into an apartment in the town of Claymont, where they lived for several years, 14 then moved to a house in Wilmington, Delaware. There Joseph Biden Sr. becomes a successfully used car salesman, managing to support the family in a middle-class lifestyle.

Biden played running back and wide receiver on his high school football team, Archmere Academy, in Claymont. He also played baseball modest student but a natural leader, was class president in his youth, graduating in 1961.

At the University of Delaware in Newark, Biden briefly played football the first year and obtained a degree in Arts in 1965 with a double major in history and political science and a specialization in English, earned C averaged and ranked in its class 506 688. then entered the Faculty of Law, Syracuse University, where it obtained the title JD 1968, taking the place 76 of 85 in its class.

He was admitted to the Delaware Bar Association in 1969. Biden has a stutter, which improved around his twenties and thirties. He says he has reduced reciting poetry before a mirror, but it has been suggested that affected his performance in the presidential debates of the 2020 Democratic Party.

Personal Life of Joe Biden

First marriage

In December 1972, his wife and their three children are victims of a road accident, their car having been struck by the tractor of a semi-trailer. His wife and daughter Naomi Christina, aged thirteen months, were killed and two seriously injured sons.

Joe Biden subsequently claims several times that the driver of the truck was driving under the influence of an alcoholic condition, but the driver’s family denied this claim and the police never proved it.

Second marriage

Joe Biden raises his two sons alone, then remarries, in 1977, with Jill Tracy Jacobs with whom he has a daughter, Ashley, born in 1981. His elder son, Beau Biden, was elected attorney general of Delaware in 2006 and 2010 after captaining in a unit of the National Guard of Delaware, and have served in the Iraq war in 2003.

Vice President (2009–2017)

As of February 1, 2007, Joe Biden was one of the candidates for the Democratic nomination in the 2008 United States presidential election. He retired from the race after taking less than 1% of the vote in the Iowa caucus on January 3, 2008.

On August 23, 2008, presidential candidate Barack Obama announced that he had chosen Biden as the running mate. Biden brought a lot of experience in foreign policy, something Obama would miss. In the presidential election on November 4, 2008, Biden was elected vice president.

Although the United States had already had a Catholic president with John F. Kennedy, Biden was the first Catholic vice president in American history. Joe Biden was also re-elected as a senator from Delaware.

Since a president or vice president of the United States is prohibited from holding other positions under the United States Constitution, he retired from the Senate prior to his installation on January 20, 2009. Delaware Democratic Governor Ruth Ann Minner appointed Ted Kaufman, for many years Biden’s assistant, as his deputy in the Senate.

He also considered running for the 2016 US presidential election, but ultimately decided not to do so in October 2015. He himself attributed this choice to the recent death of his son Beau, which would have made it impossible for him to focus on candidacy in time and with all the attention.

Presidential Campaign 2020

On April 25, 2019, Biden announced that he was running to become the Democrats’ presidential candidate to challenge Donald Trump in November 2020. For the first long time, Biden was often seen as a frontrunner, as he was best in the polls.

But after Biden did worse than expected in the primary elections in both Iowa and New Hampshire in early February 2020 and at the same time fell sharply in the polls, took over his opponent, the more left-leaning Bernie Sanders, the position of the front runner.

However, Biden won the primary election in South Carolina at the end of February, which subsequently had some of his direct opponents, including Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar, to withdraw their candidacy while expressing their support for Biden.

Joe Biden subsequently won at Super Tuesday on March 3, 2020, thereby again taking over the position as the front runner. However, this only happened after a bunch of Trump supporters stormed Congress in an attempt to stop the approval. Biden officially took office as the 46th President of the United States on January 20, 2021.

Biden was the oldest person to take President’s office at 78 and the second Catholic president, the first being John F. Kennedy.
